Sir Alex Ferguson’s reaction sums up Manchester United’s awful performance against Manchester City
Sir Alex Ferguson’s scathing reaction perfectly summed up Manchester United’s woeful display in the opening half against Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho’s side fell behind in the 25th minute after Vincent Kompany was allowed to meet Leroy Sane’s corner unchallenged to head past David De Gea.
Five minutes later, United conceded again as Raheem Sterling found Ilkay Gundogan inside United’s area, and the City midfielder neatly turned Nemanja Matic before shooting low into the corner of the net.
United struggled to regain their composure after their second setback and were fortunate not to fall even further behind as Sterling fluffed two clear-cut chances.
Ferguson, meanwhile, was in the stands at the Etihad Stadium and the Scot looked furious with United’s first-half display when television cameras caught his reaction in the 34th minute.
Graeme Souness was also scathing of United’s performance during the half-time break.
‘One or two United players look like they have given up,’ the Scot told Sky Sports.
